The Wild World of Sports

So Brett is back again!! I of course am very excited even though he will be donning purple threads instead of green. Thats alright, I'd rather see him a Viking than not see him playing at all. Also, Michael Vick is back in the mix as an Eagle. I am really indifferent on this decision, but I did find something that I thought was really amazing out of this story.

Donovan McNabb, who has a squeaky clean image in the NFL stuck out his neck for Vick. Vick is a guy that is widely regarded as nothing but trouble. I thought to myself why in the world would Vick ruin his good name for a guy like that. Then it dawned on me that is exactly what Jesus did for me on a much much larger scale! It's hard to picture myself as the Vick of the story, but that's exactly what I am. Just like McNabb, Jesus didnt have to stick out his neck but he did. Because of that reason I have the chance to get to somewhere that is much greater than the Super Bowl....I get the chance to live in Heaven. So even though I very much dislike the Eagles, this year my hat's off to Mr. McNabb, hopefully Vick will prove you didnt stick your neck out for no reason.

My mind is so weird. I am thoroughly convinced that only I could figure out a way to pull out a biblical application from the craziness that is this NFL season. I think about football way too much.

Where Have I Been?

So sorry it has been a while since I last posted. Thing in the Bryan home have definitely picked up. Thought I would share some highlights of the last few months. Kaitlyn continues to get bigger everyday. She is truly a Godsend and we are so thrilled to be her parents. Thought I would share just a few of the many faces of Ms. Kaitlyn:

As you can see Ms. Kaitlyn has a lot of personality! Also this last month I had a business trip in Pennsylvania. I elected to stay in Baltimore, since it was a short drive there and I really wanted to visit there. Since I was that close I also took a trip to New York. I didnt get to stay half as long as I would have wanted, but I did get a chance to catch a game at Yankee Stadium and got to see The Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge. Here are a few pics:

The Man. Too bad Jeter doesn't play for the Sox

Lady Liberty

Me livin it up at Yankee Stadium (next trip: FENWAY)

I was able to take in a lot of beautiful sights in a short amount of time, but as Phil Vassar would The view I loved the most: my front porch looking in!

Blessed

That is the only word I could think of when I begin to think of all the gifts the Lord has given me. Our 1st daughter was born on June 24th. As I was in the delivery room with Amy all I could think about was how amazing a woman she is and how incredibly tough she is. The baby was turned with her face up rather than face down. To avoid a C-section the doc told Amy she would have to push much harder she would've had the baby been face down. She pushed and pushed and right when it seemed like she was about to give up the top of the baby's head appeared. She asked me if I could see her and I confirmed I could. That motivated Amy and it was though she was "hulking up" b/c she pushed her out within minutes. A whole bunch of different emotions ran over me when I saw my daughter for the first time and I just completely lost it. How Amy could even stand to smile after the pain I saw on her face I'll never know.

Our families have been wonderful throughout this whole pregnancy and have been there at the drop of a hat for us always. When we arrived back to our house we had a refrigerator full of food courtesy of my sister and Noelle. This has been so helpful and allowed us to really focus on Kaitlyn. Since then Amy's mom has came over to support Amy and lend a hand wherever she could. Amy couldnt have said it better when she said "sometimes I just need my mom". Other than that we just asked for our privacy while Amy continues to heal from the labor and our family has been more than understanding. They are all amazing and I dont know what we would do without them. Here are a few pics of them anxiously awaiting the arrival of Kaitlyn:

I posted pics on facebook and the outpour of congratulations was overwhelming and reminded me of how many people God has put in our lives that are so special to us. I receieved around 100 comments on facebook, a ton of texts, and quite a few phone calls. I wanted to thank all of our friends for their kind words of encouragement, but I just wouldn't even know where to start. We had so many visitors in the hospital it was almost too many, but we didnt want to turn anyone away b/c each and everyone of the visitors were very special to us and it meant a lot that they would come and see us. We recieved a flower bouquet from State Farm, where I used to work and cookie bouquet from my current work at GenAscis.

It has been a whirlwind transtioning to parenthood. As I am typing this up Kaitlyn is laying on my chest curled up in a ball completely asleep. Those are the moments you dont want to end. She is just amazing and truly a gift from God. Sure I am getting a lot less rest than I used to, but it is a very small price to pay when I look in my daughters eyes. It is a joy that is indescribable, I look forward to the journey ahead. I am sure it will be an interesting one. Thank you to everyone that has been there for us in the past and will continue to be there in the future. You are all a blessing to my family. I will close with our first family pic.

Happy Anniversary

Today is Me and Amy's 6 year anniversary. We had already Pre Celebrated by eating at The Melting Pot. We celebrated early because we were not sure if the baby was going to be here or not yet. Saturday I watched the fight with Nathan; when the fight was over I decided to call it a night and head to bed. When I was about to get into bed there was a letter where my pillow usually is. Amy had wrote me a very nice letter. We didnt do much for our actual anniversary but we wanted to do something. I decided to cook Amy a meal, I made her a breakfast casserole for Dinner. Amy loves breakfast for Dinner, I think it turned out really good. For dessert I made her some homemade cookies. It took me a while to get it right, but I think they were alright. I gotta say I am a very lucky man to have Ms. Amy as my wife. Happy anniversary Amy! I look forward to spending many more with you.

Crazy Saturday

Today was a fun day. I woke up earlier than I expected so I got to work on the very last piece of baby furniture, the pack-n-play. I am still not done with it, but just because we didnt have batteries. Amy and Laura had a girls day out which left me and Steven at the house to play some games. We met up later to eat at Shogun's

Thought I would share this sign, hopefully you will find it as funny as I did. Gotta love Oklahoma:

Shortly after we got home I got a call from sis asking me to go to REO Speedwagon, so I hauled booty to the Zoo Ampitheatre just in time to hear the last of Styx and the whole REO Speedwagon set. Fun times were had by all. My folks might be a little older now but they still remember how to rock. Dad gives me a hard time b/c I like a lot of the music from his age, and he definitely has me pegged.

Our Newest Addition

What were you thinking?! Ha, me and Amy decided to get a Lazy Boy to rock the baby when she arrives. Here are a few more images from the weekend that was.

Our friends Laura and Steven stopped by the house with a surprise. Amy was so honored

and I was....well I had an awkward moment:

I know I'll be spending some time working from home when our real new addition arrives here, so here is some pics of the office room that I have been working on.

What's up my peeps. Been a while and I have a lot of going ons that I wanted to talk about. I wanted to start off by asking for prayer requests for frien
ds of mine. I am not sure how many of you heard about the young lady from CA, Ashley. She passed away on Wednesday as the result of a car accident. I knew her from my time with State Farm; her parents owned a wings to go place next door. They are a wonderful family and I feel terrible for them. Next I would like to mention the Chisholm family. Their little boy is the very definition of miracle. The docs did not give the little guy a chance and told the Chisholms he had an enlarged heart and would not survive thru pregnancy...he did. The docs have informed the Chisholm fam that he will need multiple surgeries over the next few months, but are confident that Luke could go on to live a normal life. I pray that God's hand guides the hands of the surgeons so David and Rachel can go home soon w/ their little one. I also hope everyone will continue to pray for Judy Hartsburg; Ive been keeping up with her progress through Nate and BJ and it looks like the road to recovery is going to be hard, but she is headed in the right direction. I pray that she gets stronger every day, she is a wonderful woman and her family is a living testament to that.

There are so many more that I could mention, there has been a lot of hurt lately. I feel so blessed to have what appears to be a healthy child on the way, and I pray every day that she continues to be healthy. Amy went to her appt today and they said she is dilated to a 2. They said that this doesnt necessarily mean that she'll go into labor any day b/c some women can be dilated for weeks on end. Doc said not to hold her to it, but she thinks she could go a week early (how cool would that be). Thought I would end with a few pics of the completed baby room. Amy also asked me to direct you all to her blog at http://amy-famousamos.blogspot.com/ and make your guesses on when you think the little one will be born. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

E-Nizzle's Graduation

Thought I would share some pics from Erin's graduation ceremony and the OU/OSU game. It was a great day with the fam.

Time Flies When You're Having Fun

I cant believe it's almost been a month since my last post. As you would probably expect, things around the Bryan house are going fast & furious. We have 3 of 4 baby showers over with and I'm pretty sure the other shower will not happen until Ms. Kaitlyn has arrived. I cant believe that we are only a month out from her arrival. I have been watching a lot of tv lately. Amy says she thinks it is b/c I am trying to watch as much as I can before Kaitlyn's arrival (shes right!). I have got to se some really neat shows, here are a few of my favs:

1. Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog- I thought this movie was so funny. Free on Hulu; check it out if you havent seen it!

2. The IT Crowd- Hilarious British comedy; kind of like a mix of The Office and Kids in the Hall

3. Jericho- Good action packed show; really wish they would have made more. This show had a ton of potential

The job is going excellent. The people are really great to work with and I really enjoy the work that I am doing. There are so many different aspects of the makeup of my job that it never gets boring. I enjoy the guys so much that I even play Xbox with them online.

My sister is graduating with her Criminal Justice degree tomorrow and to celebrate we are going to go watch OSU put the beatdown on OU in baseball. Should be a great time. Super proud of sis, now she is going to get another bachelor's in Nursing.

I'll try to get some pics up from Bedlam, Baby Room, and Enizzles graduation soon!

I finally was able to upload the 4D ultrasound from dvd to youtube. I have attached a link to watch it. It sure is neat to already see her facial expressions:

The Bad News and the Good News

I had an eventful Thursday. I guess I should start with the bad news just to get it out of the way. My hometown of Midwest City was pretty hard by some pretty nasty fires that just could not be put out b/c of the wind gusts. I feel very fortunate b/c I was right in the middle of the 2 biggest fires; there was one to the south of us and one to the north and we were very fortunate that nothing happened to our neighborhood. I know that this will affect many of the citizens of Midwest City and my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that was a victim of these fires.

On to the good news...Thursday afternoon Amy and I went to Edmond to get a 4D ultrasound to see how our little bundle of joy was doing. It was pretty amazing to see the detail that you can see with the ultrasounds. Here are a couple of the pics from the session. Although we were probably there for a good 30-45 mins it felt like it went by way to quick. Now we have a couple of more months before we can actually hold her. Cant wait!

Another "I'm an Idiot" moment

So there other day a work colleague and I decided to eat at the City Bites downtown for lunch. I guess City Bites is a pretty popular lunch spot b/c the place was packed. I was driving and we could just not find a parking space. I went around the block 2 or 3 times looking for a spot to park or waiting for someone to leave. Neither happened. Finally I saw what appeared to be some parking spots. Upon further examination I found that the parking spots were reserved for the workers of the building next door and there was a sign that clearly stated that people that parked there and did not work there would be towed. I reasoned that we would get our order to go and we would be in and out within 5 mins. Sure enough we got out in a short amount of time I arrived back at the parking lot to see a giant orange sticker that had been stuck to the side of my truck. My colleague said it looked a lot like the sticker that they use to mark vehicle for tower to come take the vehicle. After hearing that I hightailed it out of the parking lot as quick as I could. After I was a reasonable distance away I called the number on the sticker and tried to explain my predicament and why i chose to park there. The person said they understood and more or less told me not to do it again and they would forget about the tow truck. That was nice and all, but I still had a huge sticker on the side of my truck. After about 10 gallons of Windex I finally got the sticker off :)

Point of the story: They put those violators will be towed signs up for a reason. Good to know for next time :)

Happy April Fools

Hope everyone had a good April Fool's day. I thought I would share my prank that I pulled on Amy. Let me preface this by saying that I am super gullible and therefore almost every April Fool's Day Amy has got me good. One year when we were just dating she had me totally believing that she was moving out of state. She is very creative with her ideas and I know I cant get her back b/c my face gives away all of my jokes. So here is what I did.

March 31st I really hyped up the story about the computer virus that was supposed to hit on April 1st (this part of the story is true). Amy had been kidding around with me that I am a computer nerd. That night I hacked our computer to Rick Roll Amy every 2 minutes. In addition to this every page that she looked at was missing the vowels from the page and every 1oth page that she looked at automatically took her 2 pages back. Amy was freaked out and totally thought that our computer had the virus. It was classic, finally I let Amy in on the joke by telling her not to leave her computer alone with a "computer nerd" this close to April Fool's. I think she thought it was pretty funny, but by that time I am sure she was getting pretty frustrated with the computer. If anyone has a good prank that they pulled today I would love to hear it, I love this holiday.

Soon I have an "I'm an idiot" story, but that is all for now.

Childbirth Class

Yesterday we went to our first childbirth class, the class lasted from 9am-5pm. The first part of the day consisted of teaching us about what was going on in the womans body, the second part we went over breathing technique, and the third the actual pregnancy. The class was pretty good, although at times I found myself struggling to stay awake. The teacher was nice enough, although I thought she talked a little too much about her kids and less about actual childbirth. Anyways I guess halfway through the class I had the need to entertain myself. The teacher was teaching about the mother and baby's body composition during pregnancy. She said typically the mother gains about 25-30 pounds during pregnancy. She said that babies typically weigh about 8 pounds. She said where is the rest of the weight, there was a long pause and finally I said "The mom's thighs". All the men (and some women) were cracking up. Of course I got hit by the wife to let me know what she thought about the joke. The teacher would get her retribution later on without even knowing it, right before lunch we were forced to watch a birthing video that showed way more than I needed to see. I felt pretty sick. Near the middle of the class we learned breathing techniques and pressure point to relieve some of the pain that mom has when she is going through pregnancy. At the end of class we got to take a tour of the hospital to see what the birthing rooms looked like. It was pretty neat. We rounded out the day by giving our wives massages for the last hour of class, my hands were killing. There was so much more that I could talk about the class and I feel like I had a chance to understand the birthing process a little better. I just gave the highlights of the class, there was

Weekend Musings

Hope everyone had a great weekend, I know I did! Thought I would share some of the highlights with my loyal readers :)

1. Amy and I finished our baby registry, so it is definitely nice to have that behind us. If you are interested, we are registered at Target and Babies R Us. It took us about 3 1/2 hrs to get through all of it, but I think we got everything. If you are looking at our list and you see something that we may have missed or that might be beneficial, let us know. It may have been something that we overlooked.

2. Got to check out "The Watchmen" this week with Harty. I thought it was a pretty good movie, definitely not your typical superhero movie and I dont think there is anyway to predict the ending to this one. Parents should really heed the ratings systems at movies. I saw a woman that had her children in a movie that was clearly not made for them, she had to take them out about halfway through.

Overall, it was a great weekend! Now it's time to get back to work!

Moving In

So I have been at the new job now for a few weeks. I gotta say, I am really enjoying it. It is a really laid back environment and everyone there seems to really get along with each other. I like it because I feel like I am being pulled in a thousand different directions and oddly enough, that is how I work best! The people that I work with are amazing, I cant say enough good things about each and every one of them. After working with them for a brief period, it is evident why our company is continuing to grow in a period of economic decline. God certainly has blessed me with a wonderful opportunity and I feel so blessed every day I walk into work.

I figured I better start getting moved in, so I brought up a few of my personal items (I.E. pics and knick knacks) to pep up my cubicle a few days ago. So, I dont know how many people read this, but I do know these people do:

Amy- You know you are well represented in the cubicle, as pretty as you are in the pics you are 10 times more beautiful in real life. (brownie points)

Mom & Dad- I hope you know that I would have a picture of you guys in the cubicle, but I think the last pic of all of us might include me having baby teeth, dad having hair, mom having a perm, and Erin having a diaper. All factors that are irrelevant now.

All of my guy friends- Why do you want to be in my cubicle anyways? What are you gay?!

All of my friends that are girls- Only if I have clearance from the wife, probably wouldn't happen anyways

M.A.W. friends- Not many to speak of but I think the wife would give clearance on BK. Pics are few and far between from that brief stint, probably just as well. It helped me get where I am though, so I certainly dont regret it.

State Farm Friends- I know you wont believe me, so here's proof OKASA pic and Superman truck as proof:

First Day

So I started my first day at the new job today. First day's are always fun because you have an excuse for walking around looking lost the whole day. As soon as I got to work I was handed a large stack of papers that all new hires have to fill out. Then it was off to meet all of my new coworkers, there were about 20 workers there so it was tough to keep all the names straight. Luckily about 6 of the employees have the same name, so if I wasnt sure of a name I defaulted to that name. The rest of the day flowed smoothly; did some training, got my new login, filled out new hire paperwork and faxed info to HR. I will be in training for about 8 weeks, by then if I cant figure out the system then something is wrong with me. I have been super blessed to have this job and I look forward to getting to know my coworkers and having a better understanding of the software I will be using.

Thank You

To everyone that has continued to pray for me during my time of unemployment I wanted to sincerely thank you for everything. I received word today that I am hired pending a background check starting Monday!! I cannot begin to express how thrilled I am with this news. My severance was quickly depleting and I was beginning to get worried. I kept praying and all of my worry seemed to go away. I spoke with one of my friends that is still working at Make a Wish, she said that the rest of the employees that were laid off are still without jobs due to the rough economy; I would ask that you continue to pray for them and all of those that are still without jobs. That is a tough position to be in and one that I never would like to be in again.

I am starting to believe just how powerful prayer can truly be. I was reading Matt. 17:20&21, paraphrasing Jesus says that the power or prayer can move mountains. I dont think it was a coincidence that I read this as I was going through this rough time. I started praying a lot more and believing in my prayers. I have not always been the best example of what a Christian should be, but I think this whole thing was a wake up call. I think God was telling me I have blessed you with many things and I can take it away just as easy. This has definitely been a wake up call to not take God's blessings for granted and not to lose sight of what is important.

Bout to Get My Preach On...

So I have been going through some tough times lately. Many of you may not have known because I haven't spoken too much about it. January 22nd I, along with 3 other employees, was laid off from my job. It was tough for me, because just week earlier I had been told by a superior that they had seen some real progress in my efforts at work. I was assured that the lay off was more an effort to cut expenses than anything that I had done wrong.

The timing of everything was odd. I was laid off the 22nd, which was one day prior to the day that we found out the sex of our baby. Obviously I was thrilled out finding out that we had a healthy baby girl on the way and all my sadness from the day before completely vanished. We had a wonderful celebration that evening and I couldn't have been happier.

I am talking about this emotional roller coaster I have experienced over the past few weeks for a reason. I believe that as Christians God is always speaking to us, sometimes we just don't listen. I don't think that it was a coincidence that the next day after I got laid off that I got to see my daughter growing. I think it was God telling me that this job that you just lost is not that important and He will provide everything that is needed for my family.

So here I am...Feb 6th...no job to speak of (at least I have a severance). I have interviewed at a place that I feel confident about, however I am by no means a shoe-in. I know this though, if I put my trust in the Lord he will provide and his plan is better than any plans that I may have made for myself. Whether I get the job or not, we will be alright.

Prayer is a powerful tool and one that I fear I do not always take full advantage of. I think of it like a phone call to God. So I am asking prayers for myself and my family as I continue trying to get back into a job (get on the phone). I ask you not to pity me, b/c as far as I'm concerned there is nothing to pity. I still think I am one of the luckiest guys around when I look at everything the Lord has blessed me with.

I ask prayers for those that have been on the same roller coaster of emotions that I have been on and encourage them to "pick up the phone". God's line is never busy. He may not always tell us what we want to hear, but he'll always answer.

James 5:13- Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.

It's A...

Tonight we had the big unveiling of the gender of our baby. We had a good friend of ours makes us a cake that was absolutely wonderful. Here is my shoutout for her site check out cakeittothelimit.blogspot.com for all of your cake needs. She is the absolute best around. Anyways I figured I would let you find out the same way our families did. The lovely ladies that cut the cake are the grandmothers to be. If you were wondering what my comment at the end meant I was wrong on the gender, hence the missed chance at a dollar. Oh well. Me and the mommy-to-be could not be happier right now.

I will be posting pics from the ultrasounds and from the gender reveal later on. However if you would like to check it out sooner than that check out Amy's blog.

16 Random Things

I have to admit I stole this idea from a friend. I thought I would list 16 unique things about me that you may or may not know about me.

1. When I become incredibly stressed out people say that I become super calm about everything, yet my stomach turns knots.

2. I havent cut my fingernails in a long time b/c I am so crazy about chewing them off.

3. My right big toe toenail is really long right now, it is pretty disgusting (maybe I should chew it off like my fingernails. J/K

4. I like my dog more than I do most people

5. My Ipod playlist is crazy, I just like good music, no matter what the genre.

6. One time I tried Ranch dressing on my Oreos b/c I was convinced Ranch could be good on anything (I was wrong).

7. I am reading Twilight just to keep up with the times

8. I like folding clothes.

9. I could care less about myself, but am pretty protective of my family.

10. I think I flex too much.

11. I want to go skydiving

12. I love Andes mints (I always ask for more at Restaurants)

13. I love speaking to people, but am scared to death of a setting where they are not talking back (E.G. preaching)

14. My dad and grandpa are great at working with their hands, yet I was terrible in shop class.

15. I have a fear of not showing the ones that I love what they mean to me enough

16. Thats what she said (I know this doesnt make sense, but it just felt right.....thats what she said).

Sorry to My Sooner Friends

Well, that was pretty rough to watch. I didn't really care either way, but I definitely sympathize for my OU fans. Believe it or not I did want them to win b/c of the Big 12 factor. OU should keep their heads held high though, they had an outstanding year that culminated with a Heisman QB, A national championship birth, and a narrow loss in the championship. I seriously think that if the ball would have bounced differently a few times, OU is in that game. I think Stoops said about the backbreaking INT that if that ball falls straight down, it is no big deal, but sometimes that is just not what happens. Both teams played great teams so Florida I tip my hat to you enjoy the win. OU I tip my hat to you...what an unbelievable run your team had this year and.....

OREGON- You guys are the biggest waste of Nike's money going and you may have Ducked my Pokes this year, but we'll be back and if Dez is healthy all game get ready cause its going to be a LONG night. I tip my hat to you as well and then I throw it at you and pummel you with it :). j/k I might not be quite over our loss just yet.

Thank You Aubrey!!

I went to my first OKC basketball game, so I am no longer a Thunder virgin (eat your heart out Charles Barkley!). If you dont know much about bball you wont get that last joke. So anyways I won these tix while attending an event for The Make-A-Wish Foundation. The tickets belonged to Aubrey McClendon (CEO of Chesapeake and Thunder co-owner), so I knew they would be pretty good seats. What I did not know was some of the amenities that went along with these tickets. We got there and we were told that they would be serving chicken cordon bleu and beef tenderloin and at halftime they would have dessert, plus we had availability to the players tunnel. Then they slapped on some V.I.P. tickets and we were told that we would be third row (2 rows right behind Clay Bennett)! Here are some pics from the game.

Me & E-Nizzle kicking it VIP style!

Apparently if you own the team you are VIP too! :) Clay's taller than I expected too

I Love Weekends

Yesterday we watched Marley & Me. It was a pretty good movie, near the end of the movie Amy looked at me crying her eyes out and said "this movie is terrible". She didn't really think the movie was bad, it just has an incredibly sad ending. I was forewarned about this so luckily I was prepared for the sad ending. We just got back from Babies R Us, it was an eye opener to think about all the things that we need. I knew we would need the standard crib, car seat, high chair etc..., but I didn't even begin to think about bassinets, swings, or strollers. The whole time I was thinking where are we going to find room for all of that stuff? I guess I need to start cleaning out the garage :)

Rockin Out '08 & balderDASHING into '09

Here are some pics fom BJ's New Year's party. I need to explain some things first though. The reason everyone seems to be dressed like character from 13 going on 30 is b/c it was an 80's themed party. It doesn't get more 80s then Duck Tales and rolled up pants if you ask me! Also I am wearing a bandanna around my face in one of the pics b/c I thought it would be funny for my Rockband 2 character to have one, so I tried my best to replicate him. Also me and BJ started a gang. So far it is just me and BJ, but I am pretty sure it will grow in popularity. I got kicked out already, but got back in b/c I love the streets :). j/k We finished the night by playing a game of Balderdash (which I thought would be lame, but was actually pretty fun). Erin won...technically, but due to house rules in effect I Actually won. The house rule in effect was if I somehow used the word Boat more than 3 times and BJ more than two times I would win the Balderdash crown. Sorry Erin, better luck next year.
